Neigborhoods

Located in south central Brooklyn, Midwood is a suburban neighborhood with ethnic undertones. About 45 minutes from Midtown by the Q train, Midwood is relatively isolated from the city while benefiting from easy access. Several ethnic groups, such as Orthodox Jews, Chinese and Pakistanis, have established tight-knit communities in the area, and their influence can be seen along Midwood’s commercial strips with bakeries and restaurants. The neighborhood is known for its good food and shopping; however, it is not known for its nightlife because stores close early on Fridays in observance of the Shabbas. Low-rise brick apartment buildings, two-story detached houses and multi-family houses dominate real estate, and neatly kept front yards and driveways are common sights. Housing prices have been increasing as families interested in Midwood’s quiet streets and high-ranking schools move to the area, though – Midwood features one of the priciest blocks in Brooklyn, with houses selling for millions.
