Manhattan Beach

Originally a summer resort, Manhattan Beach is now a quiet, suburban neighborhood on the eastern end of Coney Island. The area is often compared to a Connecticut seaside town, with its Atlantic Ocean waterfront and alphabetically ordered streets named for places in England. Longtime Italian and Jewish residents, and new residents, specifically Russian immigrants looking for an alternative to Brighton Beach, constitute the neighborhood’s permanent population. However, students and employees of Kingsborough Community College on the eastern tip of Manhattan Beach have a strong presence in the neighborhood along with the numerous visitors to the 40-acre Manhattan Beach Park. Real estate in the area is dominated by detached single-family homes that tend to sell for over one million dollars. Rentals are limited in the area along with commercial options –residents often go to other neighborhoods to do their shopping. Overall, Manhattan Beach still has the peaceful, isolated atmosphere of a summer resort. Source: Streeteasy
